Creed frontman Scott Stapp will release the tell-all memoir Sinner's Creed, delving into his suicide attempts and battles with alcoholism, and revealing details of his abusive childhood.

"The book describes my childhood, my internal battle with drugs and depression and how I lost control of my life," said Stapp in a statement announcing the memoir. "My memoir reveals never before released details about my life and the challenges I've faced before coming to grips and finding sobriety."

Stapp wrote the book with David Ritz, a Rolling Stone writer who's also penned books on R&B legends like Janet Jackson and Marvin Gaye. The memoir also reportedly discusses why Stapp – a controversial figure on-stage and off – often avoided one-on-one interviews until recently, and tracks the singer's recovery, sobriety and return to the stage, "a turnaround he credits to his renewed faith in God."

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Stapp spoke about his earlier material, including listening to those songs during his darker days: "In those low points, the songs kind of held me accountable, in terms of the fans coming up to me over the years and saying, 'This song really helped me when I was down and it gave me hope and strength and perseverance and really uplifted me.' It's literally saved my life, because I felt such an accountability."

Sinner's Creed is due October 2nd.
