As a business owner, you may have pondered what kind of Instagram post would do best with your target demographic.
You’ll get the lowdown on how long, wide, and tall your Instagram videos should be as well as the preferred file format for viewers.
The Role of Instagram Video in Marketing
We questioned over a thousand international marketers in 2021 to find out which trends they were using and which ones they planned to implement.
One striking finding was that businesses who use Instagram videos were 16 percent more likely to report success with their Instagram approach in 2017.
We also discovered that 82% of marketers use Instagram and that the most popular content type used by these professionals is video content.
When comparing how brands use video on Instagram to how they use other content forms, the most notable distinction is that brands use humour more frequently in video and promote their goods and services less frequently.
When asked about the benefits of the site, marketers reported that videos had the greatest interaction level and return on investment (ROI) compared to images and live streaming.
It’s possible that the meteoric rise of short-form video on sites like Instagram and TikTok is contributing to the medium’s overall appeal. In fact, 8 out of 10 advertisers claim they find the most success with shorter forms of video content.
However, only 25% of advertisers actually use Reels. When asked about ROI, managers at the moment ranked it near the bottom. But it’s still something they want to put money into in the new year.
Now that we know how businesses approach video, let’s look at it from the viewer’s vantage point.
The Ideal Instagram Video Structure
Instagram currently supports three different video codecs:
We polled over 300 customers back in June 2021 to find out their preferred video type.
Overall, 43% of respondents said they watched Instagram Story videos more than any other sort of video material on the platform.
Live videos and videos posted immediately in the feed were the next most popular video formats, followed by those watched by poll respondents who did not use Instagram.
IGTV, the least preferred video platform, was shut down in October, a few months after this poll was taken.
Now that we know how customers and business people are acting, let’s talk about how to improve your Instagram videos.
Size of Instagram Videos
Instagram requires a minimum video resolution of 1080p (1080 pixels by 1080 pixels). Formats like MP4, MOV, and GIF are all acceptable. The highest file size is 250 MB, and the aspect ratio is 4:5.
This footage is of sufficient resolution to be shared on Instagram’s main feed. The final product will resemble the image to some extent.
Image Aspect Ratio on Instagram
Videos with an aspect ratio between 1.91:1 and 4:5 can be uploaded to Instagram. Your measurements will likely be around 1080 x 608 px or 1080 x 1350 px to accommodate this aspect ratio.
While these metrics are essential, one method to reduce video file size is to cut down on its running time. There is a 24-hour limit on the amount of footage that can be uploaded to the service.
